Week 14 LIGA Team Of The Week Chamakh My Pitch Up

Summary of the action from Week 14 in the LIGA 11-a-side competitions

Week 14 in the LIGA finally saw all the league and cup competitions caught up to date, ready for the second 'half' of the season to start, though three weeks later than planned.

In LIGA A the sole remaining game was the first ever meeting between BSOC Bulldogz and Kings Of Leon Osman. Both teams were looking for a win to move them firmly into the title race, but neither was able to strike a decisive blow as the lead swung back and forth, before a late BSOC Bulldgoz equaliser from a freekick saw the final score end at 3-3.

LIGA B saw a full fixture list of three games played. Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtels have picked up their first competitive win of the season as they beat Goldsmiths 3-1 to end the day in fifth place. Cypriot Society bounced back from their draw last time out with Pub Sports as they got a resounding 4-1 win against Puyol Pants Down to move above their foes in the table, though injuries and illness did have an impact on Puyol's performance. In the final game Bayer Lexerkusen picked up three points from their narrow win 3-2 win against Pub Sports to consolidate second place in LIGA B and place themselves as firm favourites for promotion behind Chaps Society.

With no LIGA C games scheduled to take place, the final two matches of the day were intended to be LIGA Cup Group games featuring LIGA C teams playing LIGA A opposition. However, FC Banterlona were unable to field a team for their match against History Society, leavign History to progress to the Cup Quarter-Finals, with Banterlona having to settle for a place in the Plate competition. History did still manage to play a match though, getting a 7-0 win in an inter-LIGA friendly against late replacements Ajaxonometric, who requested the game in order to continue to bed in players to their squad.

The Cup game that did take place though more than compensated for the loss of the History-Banterlona match, as FC Futsal faced Chamakh My Pitch Up for the final place in the Plate knockout rounds. Both teams went into the match tied on points, having both lost to Chaps Society in their opening group games. However, Futsal's superior goal difference, having lost by three less goals than Chamakh, meant that Chamakh needed to win the game to claim the Plate spot from their opponents. The first half was an even affair, but Futsal took the lead midway through and looked secure in their lead and the qualification spot going into halftime, though Chamakh felt aggrieved to see a goal chalked off for offside toward the end of the period. The second half started in much the same vein, with neither team able to create a serious attempt on the opposition goal. The change came with twenty minutes to go, as Chamakh player-manager Rhys Legate was forced to leave the pitch following a heavy tackle. The loss of their leader seemed to spur Chamakh on and they equalised shortly afterwards. Futsal were still in pole position to qualify though. However, they have shown a vulnerable streak in the final quarter of games throughout the whole season and this reared its head again with five minutes to go as Chamakh scored what was to prove to be the match winner to become only the second LIGA C team to qualify from the group phases.

In light of the above result Chamakh My Pitch Up are awarded the LIGA Team Of The Week award for Week 14, especially as they became the first LIGA C side to beat LIGA A opposition in the 2013/14 season.

Week 15 brings eight league games spread across the three LIGA's. In LIGA A features History Society vs BSOC Bulldogz, Kings Of Leon Osman vs BSOC All Stars and a clash of the top two teams as ACS FC play Bassetts All Sorts. In LIGA B Goldsmiths meet Pub Sports, Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtels face Puyol Pants Down and Chaps Society can wrap up the league title with a win against Bayer Lexerkusen. Finally, in LIGA C FC Banterlona and Red Stripe Belgrade can both top the table at the end of the day as they play Ajaxonometric and Chamakh My Pitch Up respectively.

Viva la LIGA!
