Week 19 LIGA Team Of The Week FC Futsal

Summary of the action from Week 19 in the LIGA 11-a-side competitions

Week 19 in the LIGA competitions saw the last league games of the season played along with the two remaining Cup Quarter Finals.

LIGA A provided two games, with both BSOC sides in action, the Bulldogz meeting FC Futsal and the All Stars playing Bassetts All Sorts in a what had become a third placed playoff.

FC Futsal have experienced a torrid 2013/14 season following their promotion from LIGA B last year. Early promise in both the season as a whole and many of their games has given way to disappointment as they had failed to pick up a single win in any of their previous 11 games this season. However, they have struck a mini run of form of late, picking up draws against History Society and Bassetts All Sorts in their last two games. They went one better in what was their final game of the season as they finished the season on a high with a 4-0 win against BSOC Bulldogz who have suffered an end of season collapse in losing four games on the bounce that saw them eliminated from the LIGA Cup and lose any faint hopes of a title push.

Bassetts All Sorts have also been on a poor run of late as their strong title aspirations at the mid way point of the season, when they were league leaders, have disappeared following a run of three draws and a loss which saw them drop to fourth in the league. Third in the league was still up for grabs though as they faced the current third placed side BSOC All Stars. With BSOC sitting three points clear a draw would have been enough for them to secure a top three finish and the game looked to be heading for this result as the game went into injury time locked at 2-2. However, Bassetts have clocked up late goals throughout the season and did so again with seconds left on the clock to take a 3-2 win that moved them level on points and goal difference with the All Stars, but saw them take third place thanks to scoring a single goal more throughout the league campaign.

LIGA B was scheduled to see Bayer Lexerkusen face Cypriot Society in what had become a direct playoff for promotion to LIGA A. However, coursework saw Lex unable to field a side, leaving the Cypriot's to pick up a win by default that moved them up into second and saw them claim the final promotion spot.

LIGA C's single game of the day did take place though and had even more riding on it as Chamakh My Pitch Up faced Blenheim FC in each sides final match of the season. Both sides went into the game locked on points, but Banterlona held a slight edge as their superior goal difference meant that a draw would still hand them the title. The game started in the expected manner, as Blenheim's defence, which has been amongst the strongest in all the leagues all season, provided the platform for them to put together their attacking play. Banterlona took the lead mid way through the half, but with both sides creating chances the game still seemed poised on a knife edge. The tipping point came about in fortuitous fashion. Richy Frankland has been one of Banterlona's standout players all season, contributing goals on a regular basis. His first of the days game must surely rank as his most bizarre though as his looped cross from the right touchline was wildly off it's target but ended up dropping into the far corner. From that point on there was only one team in the game and Banterlona ran out 5-0 winners to take the championship.

The LIGA Cup saw the top two teams from LIGA A, ACS FC and Kings Of Leon Osman, in action as they face faced History Society and Puyol Pants Down in their respective Quarter-Finals. Both games went with form as Kings Of Leon Osman took a 7-1 win against Puyol, going 5-0 ahead in the first thirty minutes, and ACS also went 7-1 up before a late rally by History made the final score a more respectable 7-3.

Week 19's LIGA Team Of The Week award could easily go to the winners of any the five games. However, the award goes to FC Futsal as they picked their first win of the season with an emphatic 4-0 victory.

Week 20 brings the four LIGA Cup/Plate Semi-Finals. In the LIGA Cup an old rivalry is resumed as ACS FC play Kings Of Leon Osman in a direct copy of their game at the same stage last season. The second Cup Semi-Final pits the top two from LIGA B against each other as Chaps Society face Cypriot Society.

The LIGA Plate features a LIGA C side in each of the two Semi-Finals as FC Banterlona play LIGA B's Bayer Lexerkusen and Chamakh My Pitch Up face LIGA A side BSOC All Stars.
