Week 8 Bundesliga Team Of the Week The Chaps

Summary of the action from Week 8 of NTU's Bundesliga 5-A-Side competition

With Week 8 being the final round of Bundesliga games before the Christmas break much was expected and delivered of this round of games, with new records being set for the lowest scoring game in Bundesliga history and also the largest winning margin without conceding a goal.

Only six games were played on the day due to LEX FC being unable to field a team against CC Cosmos and Is Your Motherwell's replacement Token Hotspur being unable to start in the league until Term 2.

The matches started at 2.30 as Always On Top extended their winning run to five games, beating Cheers United 4-3. Baines On Toast had made an impressive start to their Bundesliga campaign, beating Ay Bird FC 5-3. However, they were brought back down to earth with a bump by CYPS who showed no mercy in racking up a 17-0 win to equal the record for biggest winning margin set earlier this year by ASE FC and establish a new one for biggest win without conceeding.

3.30 saw the fight back of the day in the game between 5 Elite and The Chaps. 5 Elite led 4-0 going into the final period of the game. However, despite building a large lead 5 Elite had been matched by Chaps for large portions of the game. What looked like a consolation goal with four minutes left snowballed into a determined fightback, leading to Chaps scoring a last minute equaliser to level the game and leave 5 Elite wondering where it had all gone wrong...

At 4 pm Real Sosobad continued to show their continued improvement, narrowly losing 4-3 to NTU ISOC. This was followed by Ay Bird bouncing back from defeat last week by Baines On Toast by winnign 11-1 against Harpins Boys.

The days final game was the eagerly anticipated meeting of the top two as Inter de Nott, the league leaders and only team with a 100% record, played ASE FC, who boasted the best goals per game scored and conceded. The game proved to be as close, competative and high on quality as expected, with Inter hitting the bar after two minutes and both keepers having to make saves throughout the game. Ultimately though it was a single ASE goal, scored five minutes into the second half, which secured them the win, enabling them (and CC Cosmos) to close the gap at the top to just two points.

Despite ASE's efforts in beating Inter de NOtt, and CYPS record breaking win against Baines On Toast, Week 8's Team Of The Week award goes to The Chaps for their heroic fight back from four goals down with four minutes to go to draw 4-4 with 5 Elite.

The league now takes a four week break for Christmas and returns in Term 2 on the 12th January 2014. Here's hoping the games in 2014 are as entertaining as those that took place this year...
