Week 1 Team Of The Week - The Chaps

Summary of the action from Week 1 of NTU's Bundesliga 5-a-side competition

The second season of NTU's Bundesliga 5-a-side competition got underway on 13/10/13, with a number of changes promising to make the competition even bigger and better than last years. Not only has the league moved from it's temporary venue at Nottingham Girls High School into it's spiritual home in the new City Sports Hall in the City Student Union Building, but the league has increased in size, with sixteen teams vying for the title. Also the league is wide open right from the start, with last seasons champions Goldsmith FC unable to enter following graduations. However, LEX FC, Exeter Gently, CC Cosmos & Mill House (now playing as The Chaps), who finished second through to fifth last year respectively, all returned for a second crack at the title.

The league began with a match between two of teams making their debut in the league as 5 Elite faced CYPS. The match showed the way ahead for the league with ten goals being scored and 5 Elite running out impressive 8-2 winners.

The next four games all featured the teams returning from the 2012/13 season. First Exeter Gently showed the resolve that served them well last season as they came back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with the technically impressive NTU ISOC side. 3.00pm saw The Chaps (formerly known as Mill House) but down a real marker for the season as they kept the only clean sheet of the day in a 7-0 victory over Real Sosobad. LEX FC, last seasons runners up, then showed the team spirit that got within 1 point of the title last season as they came back from 4-2 down to draw 4-4 with staff team Is Your Motherwell. This scoreline was then replicated in CC Cosmos's highly competitive draw with new side ASE FC.

The high scoring game of the day followed as Cheers United came out on the right side of a 6-5 win over small-sided specialists Ay Bird FC. The last game played on the day (due to Harpins Boys vs E Block being cancelled) saw the continental skills of Inter d'Nott showcased as they won 6-1 against Always On Top.

Week 2 of the league should see all sixteen teams in action:

2.00pm - Harpins Boys vs 5 Elite

2.30pm - CC Cosmos vs NTU ISOC

3.00pm - E Block vs Is Your Motherwell

3.30pm - Inter d'Nott vs The Chaps

4.00pm - Cheers United vs CYPS

4.30pm - ASE FC vs LEX FC

5.00pm - Ay Bird FC vs Real Sosobad

5.30pm - Always On Top vs Exeter Gently

It looks like it could be another goalfest...
