Week 17 LIGA Team Of The Week Kings Of Leon Osman

Summary of the action from Week 17 in the LIGA 11-a-side competitions

With the Easter break drawing closer Week 17 provided plenty of twists and turns in the title and promotion races of all three LIGA's

Only one game in the LIGA Plate took place, with BSOC All Stars seeming to find the 3G Pitch on Clifton Campus a lucky venue for them, as they followed up Week 16's derby win against BSOC Bulldogz with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtels to earn a semi-final spot against Chamakh My Pitch Up.

Chamakh were in action themselves in LIGA C. Prior to the game they still harboured faint hopes of a league title shot. However, they came up a Blenheim who were eager to put right their 4-2 defeat in the reverse fixture back in Week 1, a result which has been their only league defeat this season. Blenheim, who possess the second best defensive record across all three LIGA's, put in a typically resolute showing at the back, keeping a clean sheet and providing the platform for them to take a 2-0 win that kept them top of the table and left their title hopes squarely in their own hands.

LIGA C's second game of the day saw the ever improving Meridian Court give another title hopeful, Red Stripe Belgrade, a real scare, taking the lead twice and only secumming to two late breakaway goals as they lost 5-3. The win kept Red Stripe in the title hunt, just a point behind Blenheim, but needing other results to go their way if they are to win the title.

In stark contrast the LIGA B title has been a forgone conclusion almost since the season began, with Chaps Society securing the championship two weeks ago. Chaps have been in imperious form all season and clearly were not letting complacency sit in as they racked up a 6-0 win against Pub Sports that saw them complete their league campaign with a 100% winning record and a +37 goal difference, having averaged five goals a game.

LIGA B's other game brought the shock result of the day. Goldsmiths FC were late entrants to the league, making their debut in a 4-1 defeat to Puyol Pants Down back in Week 6. Since then they had not picked up a win or draw, but in their last two games, a 3-1 league defeat by Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtels and a 6-4 cup loss to Chamakh My Pitch Up, they have shown significant signs of improvement. This week they faced the team they debuted against, Puyol Pants Down, and continued to show their rapid rise inform, picking up a 5-2 win that saw them gain their first points of the season, scoring their highest and conceding their lowest number of goals in a game in the process. The defeat for Puyol still leaves them in the race for the promotion spots but now their fate is out of their own hands.

With BSOC All Stars playing in the LIGA Plate, the other six LIGA A sides all featured in league fixtures. History Society and FC Futsal have both suffered disappointing league campaigns, with Futsal often taking the lead in games only to fade badly in the second half, whilst History have often ran the top sides close but been unable to convert staunch defensive displays into wins on the board. A win for either would have given them a much needed boost heading into the end of the season, but despite the best efforts of both sides, the game finished in a 1-1 draw that benefited neither side.

ACS FC have topped the table since the beginning of February and, despite recent slip ups in drawing with rivals Kings Of Leon Osman and Bassetts All Sorts and an unconvincing win over History Society, showed a return to their early season form in Week 17. Their only defeat of the season took place back in Week 4 as BSOC Bulldogz got a shock 3-2 win. ACS came into the game clearly looking to put this right and showed no mercy as they ran out comfortable 8-1 winners.

The final game of the day was the most anticpated one of the day, with title rivals Kings Of Leon Osman and Bassetts All Sorts meeting knowing that only a win would keep them in the title hunt following ACS's heavy victory. The game was an even one throughout, but in the end KOLO showed the fortitude that has seen them go unbeaten in all competitions so far this year as they took a 2-1 win to stay within one point of ACS at the top of the table.

Following their vital win in LIGA A, Kings Of Leon Osman are awarded Week 17's Team Of The Week.

Week 18 features the last round of fixtures to be played before the Easter break. In the LIGA Cup the first of the three Cup Quarter-Finals will be played as LIGA B champions Chaps Society play last year's LIGA Plate winners BSOC Bulldogz for the right to face Cypriot Society in the Semi-Finals. In LIGA C Chamakh My Pitch Up play Ajaxonometric and FC Banterlona play Red Stripe Belgrade, with the winner of the latter putting themselves in pole position in the LIGA C title race.

In LIGA B it's all about promotion with five teams in the chase for second place. Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtels and Pub Sports face each other knowing that a win all but guarantee them a top half finish at the very least. The improving Goldsmiths final game of the season is against promotion favourites Bayer Lexerkusen, who know that a win in their last two games will see them all but secure promotion. LIGA B's final game of the day is Puyol Pants Down last league game of the season against promotion outsiders Cypriot Society, with the game being the first LIGA game to be played under floodlights, as it is a 4pm kick off in the 3G Pitch on Clifton Campus.

LIGA A also brings three games to Week 18. Bassetts All Sorts will be looking to break their losing streak and take a big step in the race for third place as they meet FC Futsal, BSOC All Stars will be looking to do the same against History Society. The big game of the day takes place on the Clifton Campus 3G Pitch at 2pm. In each teams final match of the season ACS FC play Kings Of Leon Osman in a true winner takes all match. ACS go in to the game leading the league by just a single point from KOLO so victory for either side will give them the 2013/14 LIGA A title.
