Week 13 LIGA Team Of The Week Kings Of Leon Osman

Summary of the action from Week 13 in the LIGA 11-a-side competitions

Week 13 brought six fixtures, with all being played out at Victoria Embankment, despite only five pitches being prepared before the games were due to start. A late flurry of activity from the council, including council staff riding shotgun on the back of a transit that was delivering the final set of goalposts, saw all of the six games underway by ten past two though.

LIGA A provided two fixtures, both of which saw penalties being vital components in their results. History Society earned theirs while trailing 1-0 to Bassetts All Sorts as the ball struck a stray arm in the Bassetts penalty area. The resulting equaliser spurred History on, leading to them taking the lead. However, for the second match running, History were reduced to ten men through an injury to manager Matt Sharp. Bassetts got back into the game with an equaliser and then saw a potential match winner cruelly disallowed as the referees view of the ball crossing the goalline was obscurred by players bodies.

Bassetts feared that the dropped points would leave them adrift of ACS in the LIGA A title race, and these fears looked to be well founded as ACS quickly took a 2-0 lead against fellow title hopefuls Kings Of Leon Osman. However, in Ali Griffin and Sean Hackett KOLO possess a possibly the most potent frontline in the LIGA. A Sean Hackett goal reduced the deficit going into halftime, before two penalties from the same player in a fifteen minute spell, followed by breakaway goal by Griffin, saw KOLO take a shock 4-2 lead. ACS have made a habit of scoring late goals throughout the season though, and two from freekicks in the final fifteen minutes left the final score 4-4 and ACS still two points clear at the top of LIGA A.

Just a single game took place in LIGA B as runaway leaders played bottom team Goldsmiths. Though the game ended in the predicted win for Chaps, by a 6-1 margin, the performance by Goldsmiths in just their third competitive game, promised much for the second half of their season.

Two games produced results in LIGA C, despite only one fixture taking place, with Ajaxonometric unfortunately having to forfeit their game against Chamakh My Pitch Up. In the single played fixture Red Stripe Belgrade took advantage of an understrength and hastily constructed Expect Toulouse as they ran out as impressive 9-1 winners to move up to third in the league. This game would ultimately prove to be Expected Toulouse's last in the LIGA, as lack of player engagement saw them transfer into the Bundesliga 5-a-side competition. This was an unfortunate end to the campaign for Toulouse, which had started with wins over Meridian Court and current title favourites FC Banterlona.

With Chamakh's league game called off they faced Bayer Lexrekusen in an inter-league friendly. The game see-sawed throughout the ninety minutes, though Lex's greater depth on the day seemed to give them an advantage towards the end as they finished 6-4 winners.

In the day's final game LIGA A's BSOC All Stars sealed their place in the LIGA Plate Quarter Finals with a comfortable 3-0 win over Blenheim FC. The win now will sets them up to face Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtels in the knockout phase.

Week 13's Team Of The Week award goes to Kings Of Leon Osman for coming back impressively to gain a 4-4 draw with LIGA A leaders ACS.

Week 14 will see the final games of the first half set of league fixtures completed along with the two remaining games in the LIGA Cup Groups. Just a single game takes place in LIGA A with Kings Of Leon Osman facing BSOC Bulldogz, with both sides knowing a win would put them squarely in the title race. LIGA B hosts a full fixture schedule, with Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtels playing the
