The accompanying photo shows the football team of the Evangelcal Brethren Church in São Tomé & Principe, a former Portuguese colony situated off the coast of West Africa, almost bang on the Equator. Click here for more details.

The Evangelical brethren Church are the team in red. In response to a request from former Lewin Sports and New Life player Gary Weithers, who had visited this church whilst on holiday in São Tomé, the League contributed part of the charity funds raised by our cup competitions in the 2002-03 season to purchase shorts, socks and a goalkeeper's shirt . Together with a set of shirts donated by United Churches Fellowship FC, these were shipped out, via Portugal, to São Tomé in the summer of 2004 thus enabling the church who have a football team that would like to join a team to join a league which they coudn't do without the appropriate equipment.

I'm assured by Gary that the photo shows action from one of their competetive matches, and not one of their training sessions, so be thankfull for the pitches we get to play on. For a picture of the team in formal pose, click on United Churches Fellowship in the Division 1 league table.
