Here is the fifth edition of this season's 'Worcester League News'.

Hi everyone - first of all ******** SOME BREAKING NEWS ********

Latest Cup draws - You will remember me telling you that this season's Baylis and Phipps Cup competitions have a slightly different format. The 14 Saturday Division clubs have been seeded into a top seven and bottom seven. The preliminary round of the Baylis Cup will see the top seven seeds play the bottom seven seeds with the winners going into the first round proper of the Baylis Cup and the losers into the first round of the Phipps Cup. On paper !! - this should mean that the better clubs play in the Baylis Cup and the lesser teams in the Phipps Cup - of course there could well be one or two 'giant-killings' in the preliminary round that will throw that theory out of the window ! However, we think this is the fairest way to do it and will give all clubs a chance of playing in one of the finals.

The seedings happen to match the top seven and bottom seven in the League table as it stands at the moment and the draw for the preliminary round is as follows; -

YM Rangers v Malvern Town Reserves
Perrywood v University of Worcester
GDL Athletic v Malvern Rangers
West Malvern v VBL Sports
Newtown Sports v Worcester Anchors
Hallow v Northway
Powick v Worcester Raiders

Ties likely to be played in January - see website for details.

The draw for the next rounds of the Worcester Nursing Cups (sponsored by M Pinches & Sons Ltd) has also been done; -

Match report forms - One or two clubs are omitting to complete the 'Home team record' section of the form. This is a mandatory requirement and is as much for your benefit as the League's. Check your record against the one on the website and let me know if there any discrepancies. I don't want to start throwing fines at clubs that don't complete this section, so please fill it in otherwise I may have no choice !

County Cup Venues - One of our clubs turned up late at their tie in Kidderminster due to confusing directions from the home club. We want to avoid this in Worcester, so please ensure that your opponents know exactly where your ground is if you are hosting a club from another League - a detailed map and post code is highly recommended !

And finally ........ with winter fast approaching, the likelihood of waterlogged/frozen pitches is likely to raise its head. Please ensure that your pitch is going to be playable and consider an early referee's inspection to avoid unnecessary travelling.

Regards,

Tim
