A Review of the 2017-18 Season

The undoubted highlight of the Season for the League was Bradstow Albion winning the Kent Sunday Premier Cup and in doing so becoming the first side to win the trophy since Active Signs back in 1999. It was an historic day as Bradstow defeated fellow Thanet side Drink Warehouse 3-1 courtesy of goals from Xvavier Henson and a double from Elliot Payne as two Thanet sides contested the Final for the first time in the Competition’s history. Cegledi narrowly failed to join Bradstow as Kent Cup Winners as they fell to defeat against a strong Welfare side in the Final of the Kent Sunday Junior Trophy but certainly a proud day for the League.

On the domestic front, Drink Warehouse retained the Premier Division title winning it for the fourth time in their history. They finished six points clear of Bradstow Albion and a massive thirteen points clear of Camden Arms in third place, it was fantastic season for Camden in their first campaign in the Premier Division. Dolphin Kings United finished fourth ahead of Dolphin on goal difference with Monkton and AFC Westgate USC occupying the bottom two places.

In the First Division newcomers Imperial Lounge carried off the title as they won the League with ease by a twelve point margin from Schulz & Moore. Franklin Streetworks came third with just four points separating fourth placed York Arms from second bottom AFC United. Baypoint had a commendable season following Promotion whilst Chandler Wells found their form late on in the season to pull clear of the relegation places.

The Second Division Title was the closest fought of the three Divisions with new side Cramptons securing the title with just a few matches remaining. They were pushed all the way by Cegledi who had a host of matches to catch up with following their Kent Cup success. Britannia & Stonelees enjoyed great first seasons with the League whilst The Windmill also had an encouraging season. The Elms Club & South Eastern Tavern both battled it out at the bottom for most of the season and will look to build on that as they head into the next campaign.

The Cup Finals were once again well attended and a credit to all teams involved. The Challenge Cup went the way of Dolphin Kings United who beat Camden Arms 2-1 and they then added the Premier Division Cup to the Trophy cabinet by beating Drink Warehouse on penalties to retain the Cup they won last year. Baypoint denied Imperial Lounge the double as they beat them 2-0 to win the First Division Cup but Cramptons did claim the double after they beat Cegledi in the Second Division Cup.
