Here's your round up of last week's league action

A busy week in the league and goals galore again as Penistone, Emley, Harworth and Sherwood maintained their unbeaten starts, and unbelievable Covid reared its head again to curtail one fixture whilst another fell foul of faulty floodlights.

On Monday night the North Division resumed its league fixtures and Emley kept up the pressure on leaders Penistone Church as they condemned Handsworth to another defeat at Athersley. New signing Shiraz Kahn registered a hat-trick for Emley with Roman Lawrence and Callum Petch replying for Handsworth as the game finished 3-2. Thursday night saw Jubilee Sports take 3 points home from Dronfield Town. Last season’s leading scorer from the South Division finally found his scoring boots as both he and Dominic Edwards scored a brace in a 4-1 win. Dronfield replied through Callum Martin. Penistone Church continue to blaze a trail in the North. They hammered previously unbeaten Worsbrough Bridge 6-0. A Sam Rolling double and further goals from Alfie Broughton, Taylor Fairbank, Harry Hoyland and Maxwell Jenkins sent the home crowd home very happy. In the final game of the week in the North, Swallownest and Thorncliffe Villa both registered their 1st point of the season in a 1-1. Jake McKechnie with his 4th goal of the season for Swallownest whilst Jack Appleyard scored on his debut for Thoncliffe.

The South Division also got underway on Monday night but only for 7 minutes as floodlight failure at Ollerton meant that the game between G3A Academy and Long Eaton United had to be abandoned. On Tuesday night the action finally got underway properly and there were two away wins. Matlock Town ran out 4-1 winners in their visit to Kimberley MW. The hosts netted through Bradley Mee but Matlock cruised to victory thanks to a brace from Charlie Humphries and further strikes from Ewan Catt and Kyle Clowes. Staveley were also winners on the road, with Owen Bradshaw, Harrison Lightning and James Stennett all on the scoresheet. Marcell Forde and top scorer Oliver Unwin (5 in 3 games) were both on the scoresheet for Notts County but it was the Trojans who travelled home with three points off the back of a 3-2 victory. Finally, on Wednesday night Sherwood Colliery maintained their 100% start to their title defence winning 6-2 at Rainworth MW. Toby Francis registered his 5th goal in 3 games and Rainworth also got a goal from new signing Ryan Hurcombe, however Sherwood were in ruthless mood and Corey Clarke (2), Matthew Hague, Thomas Rood, Kyle Saulter and Owen Tindall all found the net to see them to a comfortable win.

The Central Division was almost completely wiped out, but one game did survive. Harworth making it 5 wins from 5 on their visit to Worksop Town on Friday. The visitors won 4-0 with goals from Reece Jones, George McKernan, Gage Parton and Harvey Smith. The rest of the league fixtures were missing. Club Thorne and Retford FC left without fixtures due to Gainsborough and Retford United playing each other in the league cup and Dinnington being unable to fulfil their fixture at Goole due to issues with Covid.

One game in the cup then as mentioned and on Friday night Gainsborough Trinity were the last team to put their name into the hat for round 2 with a 3-0 victory over Retford United. Tobias Burke, Ben Coleman and Aiden Tomes all on target for the Holy Blues,
