Santiago 5 v 1 Roma

Santiago had their last friendly before the start of the new season against a Roma side that they will face at least twice this season. The first half saw Santiago start brightly and create several good chances. The deadlock was broken when Santiago put together some good passes before Adam Foggo was put through and slid the ball home to make it one nill to the home side. Roma responded by keeping possession and worked the ball well for an opening and the Roma midfielder lashed a shot which Dan Merrit done well to parry and as the ball dropped in the area, the first to react was a Roma midfielder who blasted the ball into the net. Santiago kept their cool and passed the ball well and regained the lead after a well worked move ended with Bradley Gormer who returned from injury, slotting the ball home. At half time Santiago came in 2-1 to the good. In the second half, Santiago began to take control and extended the lead when Chris Phillips made it 3-1. The visitors were starting to get pushed back on regular occasions and after another well worked move, Santiago made it 4 when Bradley Gormer claimed his second, after good work from Adam Foggo. With their tails up, Santiago passed their way around a tiring Roma side and the rout was completed when Chris Phillips hit his second. At 5-1, Santiago still played the passing game until the final whistle. Manager Peter Fisher was pleased with the team's display and with the return of some injured players. With the friendlies out of the way, they now look forward to the start of the new season next week with a home date with Connor. A good start to the season is a must if they are to be successful this term.
