Bassingfield better Beeston AFC II

The top two teams in the Premier Division both secured resounding victories with leaders FC Sutton Foresters netting ten goals without reply from Radcliffe Olympic III who were hit by a Nathan Pike hat-trick as well as doubles from both Adie Harris and Mick Barsby with Sam Binch, Dean Gibson and Kieron Harris completing the tally. Wollaton III at least managed a Bingham Ryan consolation goal in reply to ten goals from Woodborough United which were made up of doubles from Dom Lynas and Michael Nester together with solitary strikes from Ricki Thompson, Chris Bovey, Dan Mellors, Nils Morpeth, Matt Hulley and Nyam Sukh. Third placed Old Elizabethans netted five goals without reply from Mansfield Hosiery Mills with Tom Blaney and Callum Wilkinson claiming doubles and Andy Boulton the other O.E.s’ marksman. The same 5 – 0 scoreline was also recorded by Bestwood MWSC as an understrength Rainworth Rangers side conceded a double to Dan Carter alongside goals from Ross King, Mike Allen and Adam Mahl. Goals from Luke Heselton and Kieran Gubbins proved insufficient for Beeston AFC II who went down 3 – 2 to fourth placed Bassingfield whose sole marksman was Darren Oldham. Beeston OBA gained revenge for last week’s defeat by Trent Vineyard with a 4 – 1 victory in back to back fixtures. TV’s goal came from Matt Lake whilst Beeston’s goals were shared between Robert Goliah, Gavin Carr, Marcus Hayes and George Rees Jones.
Eaton Hall College destroyed second placed Old Elizabethans II’s unbeaten Division 1 league record by inflicting a 2 – 1 defeat on them thanks to goals from Chris Daly and Charles Holiday. NRU FC retained fourth spot when FC Trinity failed to find a reply to a Barney Watson hat-trick. Ashfield FC doubled their tally of victories by defeating Steelers 3 – 1 with a Luke Ball double and a goal from Ricki Platt answered by a Charles Simpkiss strike for Steelers. Meanwhile a solitary Danny Ellis goal was all that Magdala Amateurs A could muster against three from fifth placed Sutton Travellers.
Watnall Athletic opened up a ten point gap at the top of Division 2 thanks to a 4 – 0 victory over Old Elizabethans III who were hit by a Martin Ward double and goals from Paul Randle and Dan Butler. At the other end of the Table Ashfield II are still looking for their first point after losing 6 – 0 to Sunnydale. After a goal less first half strikes from Neil Ainsley, Callum Cossey and Nathan Cossey earned Alvaston United a best of five goals victory over Southwell St Marys whilst Kieran Clarke was on the mark for MAFC who earned a 1 – 1 draw with Old Bemrosians.
A 7 – 1 victory for AFC South Wingfield 93 over Pastures Reserves earned them a place in the Derbyshire FA Junior Cup Semi Finals. Jason Miles netted four goals whilst Chris Evans, Craig Catchpole and James Simpson completed the tally. Unfortunately Derbyshire Amateurs will not be joining them after they went down 4 – 1 to Little Eaton Reserves. Another side to enter the Semi Finals of a County Cup were Bridon AFC when goals from Phil Cross Swain and Liam Cross went unanswered by Crusader Reserves in their Notts FA Minor Cup tie. In the same competition Moorgreen Reserves went down 5 – 2 to last season’s finalists Kimberley M W B, Sherwood Colliery A failed to reply to five goals from AFC Top Valley and Ravenshead were on the wrong side of a 6 – 3 scoreline in a bruising encounter with Ashfield Athletic.
