The Tamworth Invitation Trophy Saturday competition for ages U9s to U13s due to be played Nov 2nd & 9th has been suspended. Click to read full notice.

The Saturday competition of the Tamworth Invitation Trophy has been put on hold, with all November games cancelled. This is due to an intervention by the Birmingham County FA.

After 20 years of this competition the County FA last season asked us to ensure all Sunday teams paid a Saturday affiliation fee to play in the competition. Teams did this and the competition went ahead successfully. This season, AFTER a round has already been played and teams have again paid this fee to the County FA, we have now been informed that:

It is not permissible for a Sunday affiliated Club to simply affiliate on a Saturday just to enter this Competition.
To compete in the Saturday Competition all Teams must play in a Saturday affiliated League at the age group relevant to the Competition that they have or intend to enter.

The above ruling would limit the competition to teams from just the Tamworth Junior League and Mid Warwickshire Junior League (U9s & U10s only) and as such we have no alternative but to put the competition on hold until a way forward is found.

The Saturday competition has attracted entries from 135 teams this season and so this ruling affects over a thousand young footballers. Letters have been sent to all club secretaries, and due to the number of clubs affected please do not contact Tamworth Junior League officials on the matter, there is nothing more we can tell you at this stage. If you are unhappy with the situation then you should contact Birmingham County FA, who are staffed by full-time employees.

In the meantime LEAGUE FIXTURES will be brought forward to fill the vacant Saturday for Tamworth Junior League clubs.

We must stress that the SUNDAY competition for U14s to U18s IS NOT AFFECTED in any way.
