Scott: It started as a dream
Jill Scott dedicated her FA Cup goal and success to those who always believed in her.
Man City Women lifted the trophy for the first time at Wembley Stadium with a 4-1 win over Birmingham.
Scott sealed the triumph with a thumping finish with ten minutes to go and celebrated with acknowledgement to family and friends who had made the journey to witness the Blues make history once more.
“That was for my sister, my mum and the kids that had travelled down,” she explained.
“I don’t think I’ve scored one like that in my life! It was a good time for it to happen – at Wembley.
“I knew they’d made a big effort so it was nice to get them a goal.
“I’m so pleased for Nick Cushing (manager) and Gavin Makel (Head of Women’s Football) too.
“They’ve both put in so much work over the past four years.
“It all started as a dream. Now we’ve won the Continental Tyres Cup, the league title and the FA Cup.
“It’s thoroughly deserved.”
Reflecting on the triumph, Scott expressed her pride at her side’s ruthlessness in the opening 45 minutes.
“It was a good team performance,” she continued. “We really went at them in the first 20 to 25 minutes.
“We found ourselves 3-0 up at half-time and then we held on in the second half.”
Asked what’s next for the champions, Scott replied: “We’ll celebrate this win but then we will need to concentrate and prepare well for our next game.
“It’s been game after game to be honest but the squad prefers to play than train – like any other team.”
