Georgia Stanway named FA WSL Player of the Month
Georgia Stanway has been named the FA Women’s Super League Player of the Month for February.
Stanway rounded off an impressive month with by earning her first-ever call-up to the Lionesses for the SheBelieves Cup in the United States. The 19-year-old was crucial in her side’s title contention scoring a superb long-range effort from outside the box which clinched a vital point against title rivals Chelsea in our thrilling 2-2 draw.
The youngster had some tough competition in the shortlist, including Arsenal’s Beth Mead and Chelsea striker Fran Kirby.
The FA WSL Player of the Month award celebrates the best players in the top two leagues and the Continental Tyres Cup. Each month, three players are shortlisted based on their performances before a media panel selects a winner for each league.
Presented with the award, Stanway declared: “I feel like I’ve performed well, especially in the last game where we got the equaliser against Chelsea in the latter stages of the game.
"Scoring that goal was definitely my most memorable moment of the month. I think we’re not afraid to say that we’d like to win the league and we’re doing what we can to put ourselves in the best possible position.”
City are in action in Continental Tyres Cup Final on Wednesday 14 March, locking horns with Arsenal in a repeat of the 2014 finale, battling it out for the first piece of silverware of the domestic season.
