Emslie eyeing Wembley dream

Claire Emslie says she hopes to follow in her teammates footsteps by stepping out at Wembley in the FA Cup final.

The winger, who helped City to the fifth round of the competition with a goal in Sunday’s 2-0 victory at Brighton and Hove Albion is yet to taste success in a major tournament.

The Blues are still alive in all four competitions and while Emslie asserts her side are remaining grounded, the 23-year-old was thrilled to progress in England’s most prestigious trophy.

“We’re delighted to get the victory and get through to the next round of the FA Cup,” she declared.

“It’s a massive competition, especially with the final being at Wembley. Every player dreams of playing there.

“This is the first stage, playing in this competition with this team – the first step.

“We’ll be trying our best to lift it again but I think we just need to take one game at a time – that’s the plan – and keep winning.”

Emslie bagged the second of the game at Culver Road – her seventh in her maiden campaign with the Blues.

City already led through Izzy Christiansen but with Brighton threatening on the counter-attack, the Scottish winger’s strike created a comfortable lead.

Reflecting on the clash, she continued: “It was a hard game.

“Brighton were really tough to break down and it was a great atmosphere – most of the crowd of course, were Brighton fans.

“If you messed up, you got some stick for it! Credit to Brighton though – it’s a good club with a great set-up.

“Every game is important to us – in every cup.”
