Cushing: We have to keep the level up
Nick Cushing wants his side to keep their current level up ahead of their mid-week Champions League clash against LSK Kvinner.
In the first round against the Norway outfit, City secured a 5-0 victory, and the manager is focussed on maintaining their impressive form.
“We have a Champions League game in midweek,” Cushing said. “We have to keep the level up.
“Then, the staff can have a rest but the players will go off on international duty and play even more games. It’s getting harder and harder to win.
“We’re almost perfecting the art of preparing for a game in one day - we got back from Norway at 4pm on Friday then the players went home for a few hours and went to bed. Then, on Saturday morning, we were preparing for the Bristol game.”
City have had an incredible start to the season with a 100% winning record so far, which was extended on Sunday after securing a 4-0 victory over Bristol City on Sunday.
But despite sitting two points clear at the top of the FA Women’s Super League above second-placed Chelsea, the boss believes there is still a lot of work to do.
“We’re top of the league, which we’re pleased about, but we’ve not won anything yet,” Cushing explained after the recent win over Bristol City. “We have a job to do.”
“Although Chelsea dropped points, it means nothing really. If they beat us on 10 December, they go one point ahead and if we drop points before then, it’s meaningless.
“To win a league, you have to be able to win well, win ugly, change the team, adapt.
“We just have to concentrate on trying to win. Like in 2016, let’s keep winning and see where it takes us.”
